Digital media studio

PROIA DIGITAL

The work should do the talking.

Web, motion, and product interfaces, built as one craft.

Independent US studio. Small jobs, done properly.

Most digital media is made to be scrolled past. We make the other kind.

Sites, interfaces, motion, and systems, designed and built by the same hands so the idea survives the handoff. We treat attention as a material. We don't harvest it. We shape it.

Selected work

One shipped product and three studio studies. The studies are sketches of the work we take on, not client claims.

Northline

Problem
A technical shell with a real story, sold through a page that read like a spec sheet.
Made
A campaign site where the garment reveals itself layer by layer as you scroll. Each layer is a frame; the scroll is the cut.
Why
To prove a product page can carry a story with the stills a brand already has. No crew, no carousel.

Vesper

Problem
A movement that takes eleven months to finish, presented in a three-second thumbnail.
Made
One scroll that walks through dial, case, and movement, one frame at a time. Copy arrives only when the image has earned it.
Why
To show how far pacing alone can go. The client supplies the renders; we supply the sequence.

Halo Protocol

Problem
Twelve sensor feeds, three teams, and a screen nobody wanted to look at.
Made
A dark operational dashboard with a motion vocabulary for state. Nothing moves unless something changed.
Why
To design a motion vocabulary for state, so a dense screen can be read at a glance and trusted.

Still

Problem
Prayer apps borrow their patterns from engagement apps. Streaks, badges, notifications that beg.
Made
A product interface built on silence. Typography that holds still, timers that don't nag, no dark patterns. Shipped natively to iOS and Android from one codebase.
Outcome
Live on the App Store and Google Play in 176 countries. Nothing in it asks you to come back.

Mediums

Not a list of services. Five materials we know how to work.

Picture

A frame is a decision about what to leave out. We work with the pictures you already have, composing, cropping, and treating them for the screen they will live on.

Move over the frame to pull focus.

Motion

Motion explains change. If nothing changed, nothing moves. Every ease has a reason, and the reason is usually the cut.

Scrub the timeline.

Interface

The part people touch. Built to be quiet under the hand, fast under load, and obvious without a tour.

Try the controls.

Standard

Narrative

Order is the argument. What you see first, then next, then last. We write the sequence before we design the screen.

Advance the line.

Begin with the thing itself.

System

Rules that let the work grow without us in the room. Type scales, spacing, color, and motion, written down and enforced in code.

Reveal the grid.

Process

Four steps. Taste at the front, shipping at the back, iteration in between.

  1. 1

    Brief

We read everything, then ask the one question that decides the project.

  2. 2

    Direction

Two or three directions, rendered far enough to argue with. You choose. We commit.

  3. 3

    Build

Designed in the browser, on the timeline, in the codebase. Iteration is the method.

  4. 4

    Release

Shipped with the details intact. Performance budgets, accessibility, and a launch we would sign.

An independent US studio. Small on purpose.

We take a few projects at a time and release them when they are finished. Design, motion, and engineering happen at the same desk, which is why the work arrives whole.

The work we take is small and well defined: a launch site, a product interface, a motion pass on something that already exists. We don't do photography or film production. If it needs a crew, it isn't ours.

Our own product, Still, is live on iOS and Android. It is the standard we hold client work to.
